Document Literacy Service

Know what you have before you spend a dime.

Most people walk into a lawyer's office with a stack of documents they've never read, paying by the hour to get told what they could have already known.

This is rights education.
Not legal advice.

We read the document with you. We tell you what it actually says, what the system is doing, and what your deadlines are — so when you do walk into that attorney's office, you're not starting from zero. You already know what you have.

You don't spend money blindly. You spend it informed.

If you've got a document
you don't understand — this is for you.

📄 Court summons You don't understand it and don't know when or how to respond.
📋 Termination letter Doesn't add up and you think something is wrong.
👨‍👩‍👧 Custody or family court paperwork You don't understand what it says or what comes next.
💵 Pay stub that doesn't add up You suspect wage theft and need to know what you're looking at.
🪪 Passport, ID, or renewal forms You don't want to mess up and don't know how to fill it out correctly.
🏛️ Government paperwork Benefits, agency letters, public assistance forms designed to confuse.

Three ways to work together.

Tier 01 Sit With It 45 min  ·  1 document or issue $30 – $50

One thing. We open it, we read it, we talk through what it says. You leave knowing what's actually in front of you — what the words mean, what the dates are, what each section does. Includes a plain-language summary sent after.

Tier 03 Full Picture 2 sessions  ·  2 weeks $120 – $200

Two sessions, email check-in between. We read everything, map what each document says, and put it in writing so you can see the full picture. Includes a plain-language summary and a list of suggested next steps — like specific questions to ask an attorney — so you walk into that conversation already knowing what you have.

What Navegante is not.

Required acknowledgment

  • Chio Ramirez is not a lawyer, paralegal, attorney, or legal professional of any kind — and is not pretending to be one.
  • Navegante is a document literacy and organization service, not a legal service. Nothing discussed in a session constitutes legal advice, legal strategy, legal opinion, or legal representation.
  • What this service does is read documents with you, explain what the language actually means in plain terms, and help you understand what you're looking at — before you walk into a room where someone is charging you to do exactly that.
  • All documents you share are kept strictly confidential. They are not stored beyond your session, not shared with any third party, and not used for any purpose outside of your session.
  • You remain fully responsible for all decisions made regarding your documents and your legal situation.
  • If you need legal advice, representation, or a legal opinion — you need a licensed attorney or your local legal aid office. That is not this.
